Danish American National Cultural Exchange (D.A.N.C.E) is a scholarship program established in 1983 by Neel Resling Halpern, together with Ballet Master Peter Martins, Frank Andersen, and Ted Michaelsen. The purpose of the program is to award scholarships to young talented performing artists giving them the opportunity to further their education by studying in a foreign country, meeting other artists, sharing experiences, and learning new and different techniques. The first scholarship was awarded in 1984, and aside from a hiatus due to the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021, D.A.N.C.E has facilitated this continuous cultural exchange between Denmark and the United States every year. Since 1984, 111 young artists from Denmark and the United States have crossed the Atlantic Ocean to further their education and artistic skills through studies under the expert guidance of world-renowned artists in New York and Copenhagen.
